Michael Lee Walton

Michael Lee Walton was born in Ystalyfera, Swansea, Wales. After many years of formal training, Michael began working at the prestigious Brangwyn Hall,  Swansea which led to his first media appearance, conducting a tour and performing at the famous Brangwyn Hall Organ, for Channel Four, Wales.

Michael was one of the youngest organists in the UK, holding a residency at St. Marys Church, Risca, Wales at the age of 12. He has continued to work as a church organist and musical director  since this time and has a passion for working with choirs.

Having met some of the world's greatest artists he was encouraged to relocate to London, where he has achieved great success in music education; particularly at various schools in London, and in private practise. On a bi-annual basis, he organises and hosts concerts in which his piano students are given the opportunity to perform. This is followed by an opportunity for students and parents to meet over a glass of wine.

Michael believes these events are an important opportunity in celebrating progress and commitment to the art of piano playing. It brings him great joy to arrange these concerts, and see the progress the students are making. Previous concert venues have included  London’s Steinway Hall’s Concert Venue, The Swiss Church, Covent Garden and St Columbus Church, Knightsbridge.

In Michael's teaching work, there is a clear understanding of the benefit of the element of surprise, and tools with which to engender a delight in various aspects of musicianship and working with students on pieces which they are inspired to learn. The complex response of the adult students... in contrast with the more immediate response from children are two different frameworks within which to work and bring about the best results, tailored also to the individual, and to the strengths and weaknesses which present themselves along the learning process.

As a performer, Michael has performed regularly as a featured headline artist on some of the worlds finest cruiselines and throughout the U.K., giving recitals which include some of his own compositions and arrangements.

A culmination of many events inspired Michael to study and graduate in psychotherapeutic counselling in 2009. Michael is fascinated with the processes of creativity and in particular improvisation. Also, the integration of an understanding of psychological process and anxiety, involved in taking exams and performing on stage as a musician gives him an added depth to his work, in helping students facing challenging situations such as these, which occasionally give rise to nervousness..

The musical life of All Saints, Upper Norwood involves a continuing ethos of the traditional music and new, innovative styles, ever evolving and open to new thoughts and continuing creativity.
